Cities, towns and regions are increasingly waking up to the potential of cycling tourism. I really appreciate it when the local council or other tourism body makes a real effort to promote cycling as part of a holiday. So kudos to Orange City Council and their ride guide.
Using this guide as inspiration, in November 2020 Mrs CyclingGravel and I had the opportunity to take a short escape and try three different routes. None are particularly gravelly, but all offer great country road cycling to consider as part of a weekend or short break holiday in the Orange region.
Orange to Molong
For those happy to combine backroads with some busier country routes, the trip to Molong is a great ride.
Mount Canobolas
Tackling this climb requires decent fitness, but is a rewarding ride
Orange to Millthorpe
Join the coffee hunters and enjoy brunch in this great country town
Other recommendations to go with the cycling

Winery – Borrodell / Sister’s Rock
Offering beautiful views towards Orange, this up-market restaurant offers pleasant evening dining. We opted for dinner, though mid-ride lunch is also possible!

Brewery – Badlands
Not only does this place create award winning beer (see The Australian’s Top 20 Beers of 2020), it can be enjoyed with the great food from the Agrestic Grocer.

Gelato – Spilt Milk Bar
Just what you need after a ride – an cold one of a different variety. So nice we went there more than once. The Mascarpone, jam and biscuit flavour was amazing…..

Pub – The Lord Anson
Offering food that is a cut above pub grub, this great location is highly recommended. If it is still on tap when you visit, I can recommend the Borenore Pale Ale – a local boutique brew.
